One of the healthy summer activities in Beaver Dam is swimming at Beaver Dam Lake.

Swim, paddleboard, or kayak at Beaver Dam Lake

Summer means fun in the water – and here in Beaver Dam, we’re lucky enough to have loads of options right at our doorstep! Kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards are available for rent at Waterworks Park every day after Memorial Day (and on weekends in shoulder season). Or, cannonball into the spring-fed waters of Crystal Lake Beach. If you have little ones in tow, they can safely wade at the Swan Wading Pool.

Hike or bike one of the many trails outside of town

There are many parks and nature trails to enjoy around Beaver Dam and Dodge County—they’ll keep you busy for many summers to come! Take your bikes out to the Wild Goose State Trail or wander the hiking trails at Horicon Ledge Park, Nitschke Mounds Park, Astico Park, and others. Hiking and biking are both great cardio exercises that can help keep you strong and healthy.

Walk to (or in!) an annual parade

Walking is an activity you can do anytime in beautiful Beaver Dam, but it’s a lot more fun on a parade day! There are a few parades throughout the year in Beaver Dam. If you live close enough, walk with family and friends and set up camp. You could even arrange to march in the Memorial Day Parade in May or the Holiday Parade if you sign up in early December.

Enjoy outdoor sports at parks and the YMCA

There are 21 city parks around Beaver Dam where you can bring family and friends for picnics and pick-up sports, whether you want to shoot some hoops on the basketball court, hit tennis balls, swim at a pool, or kick a soccer ball around. The YMCA of Dodge County also offers a wide variety of summer activities for anyone to enjoy. New in 2019 is obstacle course training for anyone who wants to channel their inner ninja! And of course, there are plenty of youth programs if you have kids with summer energy to spare.

Race, dance, and hula hoop at the Lake Days Festival

The annual Lake Days festival is one of Beaver Dam’s most beloved summer traditions and offers yet another healthy summer activity. This year, residents will come together from July 11-13 for a variety of fun and active events. Row in the cardboard boat regatta, see if you can master the hula hoop for two minutes straight, or enjoy cardio when dancing to your favorite bands.
